The Caroni Rum Distillery has always been described as having been established in 1918.
This advertisement from the Trinidad Guardian is not only from a few years before 1918, but it establishes that the Caroni Distillery was possibly in operation since 1899.

It’s also possible that it was well regarded by customers and held in high esteem alongside New England Rum and Jamaican Rum.

The Black Cat Bar in Port of Spain was located a short distance from the wine and spirits outlet operated by Manoel Fernandes.

The owner of the Black Car Bar was Manuel Augusto Silva who owned at least three bars in Trinidad during his lifetime.
