The introduction of this product is credited with rum becoming more profitable than bitters for the company.

At this time,  the term Old Rum was already in use for several decades to reference lightly aged rum sold by several rum blenders and merchants.

Caroni would introduce Old Cask Rum as direct competion.

Old Oak Rum would be discontinued decades later, but White Oak Rum and Royal Oak Rum can both be considered to be more modern evolutions on this product.
